To become a successful Mortgage Adviser you need sales skills, an understanding of the property market, in-depth knowledge of the mortgage industry, as well as your CeMAP qualifications. Alexander Hall, in conjunction with our sister company Foxtons Estate Agents, can provide you with these skills and knowledge whilst you study for your exams.
The initial stage of the structured training programme involves working within the Foxtons sales team as a Move Consultant. This role allows you to expand and perfect your sales skills by bringing in new business from potential landlords, tenants, buyers and vendors as well advising existing clients on additional services in the Foxtons group. This includes recommending Alexander Hall and selling the benefits of the service we provide. It's a great way to learn how the mortgage and property industries work and the types of queries that arise during the process.
As a trainee, the day begins at 8.40am with a sales meeting run by the Sales Director. It's time to hear about the latest trends in the market and it's a great way to prepare everyone for a successful day.
By 9am you're at your desk receiving incoming calls and making outgoing calls to maximise business opportunities for Foxtons and Alexander Hall. An incoming call comes from a landlord enquiring about renting their property - you want to ensure that you arrange for one of our Valuers to visit the property for a valuation and to win the instruction for Foxtons. Having spoken to the potential landlord about Foxtons' track record in their area they are keen to proceed straightaway so you book an appointment in a Valuer's diary and diarise to follow up the appointment. On the back of this success you make a call to a potential developer who you are targeting to purchase through Foxtons and to finance his deals via Alexander Hall. You agree to email him property details and you make a note to call him again tomorrow. Following each call you make, you will need to update the internal database shared throughout the company and to carry out administrative tasks such as posting out brochures and other relevant marketing materials.
You will soon learn that everyone's circumstances vary and each call that you make will throw up new scenarios. Gaining knowledge of the property market and necessary sales skills are vital to this role, but you must also have excellent communication skills and be able to convey your personality over the phone. Your ability to master these skills dictates your success as a Move Consultant and the speed of your development within the training scheme. It will ultimately provide you with a foundation for your success as a Mortgage Adviser.
As you demonstrate your ability as a Move Consultant your role will become more specific to the mortgage adviser y side of the business. Working in the Client Services team you will be speaking with clients in greater detail about their financial requirements and organising meetings with one of our Mortgage Advisers. By this stage you will have started your CeMAP exams and be well on your way to progressing to a Mortgage Adviser role.
You will need to make time to study at home, both in the evenings and at weekends. The process is made far easier however with the knowledge gained during your role as a Move Consultant.
